Fall Fashions: Dressing up for a Fall Tea

Dressing up for a Fall Tea

Scones, finger sandwiches, dainty desserts, fancy porcelain tea cups filled with warm and aromatic tea. These are some of the many reasons why I like doing afternoon tea. I usually do afternoon tea every year for my birthday but since we were still under lockdown back then I had to wait until the end of October to celebrate my June birthday with tea. I made the best of it however, and enjoyed putting a fall spin on my tea outing. This year I did tea at the Townsend Hotel and the fireplace we sat by really set the backdrop for a fall tea on a cold day. Since the tea was at the height of fall, I decided to wear fall colors.

Typically for afternoon tea I dress smart casual. I equate smart casual to business casual or the way I would dress for work (i.e. slacks, blouses, skirts, dresses, blazers). I’m wearing a burnt orange tie neck blouse paired with brown plaid cropped pants. I enhance the look of the outfit with brown accessories such as my suede brown boots, brown coat, and multi-color tan/brown/cream handbag. The cropped pants and boots paired together is a style that has recently made a comeback and I’m happy about it as I don’t like to be limited to wearing cropped pants only when it’s warm out.

Of course the best accompaniment for my afternoon tea outing was my tea date, my mom. We have done tea together for my birthday for the past few years and I’m looking forward to many more years of mother/daughter tea dates.
